Gastonia Woman in Critical Condition, Result of Burns. . . While Attempting to Beat Flames from Husband’s Clothing, Her Own Clothing Catches Fire

Gastonia, N.C., Dec. 14—Mrs. C.W. Spencer, wife of prominent Gastonia contractor, was in a critical condition tonight as the result of burns received this afternoon when her clothing caught fire while she was attempting to beat the flames from her husband’s clothing, which caught fire from an open grate.

Physicians stated that Mrs. Spencer’s burns might prove fatal but that Mr. Spencer probably would recover.
