Hell-Bent for Heaven, Play Wins Accolades in New York City, Feb. 14, 1924

Hughes’ Play Wins

“Hell-bent for Heaven,” a play by Hatcher Hughes, University of North Carolina alumnus, is now being produced at one of the New York theatres and has received high praise form the critics of the metropolis. John Corbin of the Times calls it “one of the most original and vividly colored pieces in the contemporary drama,” and says of the leading character: “If the American drama contains a more powerful and vividly illuminated character than this self-deceiving saint, I do not know where to find it.”
