Mrs. Farrow Orders Intruder to Leave Her Home, Feb. 13, 1924

Unknown Negro Enters a Home in New Bern. . . Black Man Walks in on Two Ladies—Frightened by Their Bravado

New Bern, Feb. 12—A brazen attempt to either commit robbery or something worse occurred at the corner of Hancock and Broad streets shortly after 10 o’clock last night when an unknown negro gained entrance to the home of Mrs. Garrison Farrow, walked into the living room and confronted Mrs. Farrow and her mother, Mrs. B.R. Morris, who were alone in the house at the time, and stated that he had been told by a man named “Lee” to meet him there.

The two ladies retained their composure, despite the shock, and told the black to get out at once. The man saw that he was in for more than he anticipated, and made a hasty retreat. Mrs. Farrow telephone to her husband, who was visiting a friend three blocks away, and he and others hastened to their home, and made a search of that locality, but to no avail.

Mrs. Farrow and her mother exhibited admirable presence of mind under very trying circumstances and to this is attributed the fact that the negro was frightened away before causing any further trouble.
