Charlotte, May 29—Walter S. Alexander, one of Charlotte’s leading citizens and wealthiest men, died this afternoon at a hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., according to a message received here early this evening. Mr. Alexander suffered a break down several months ago and the latter part of April went to Battle Creek to consult specialists and to take treatment in a hospital in the Michigan cit. However, the treatment failed.
Mr. Alexander was the pioneer real estate man in Charlotte and in the past quarter century or more had been connected with practically every big realty development in this vicinity.
He also developed and owned the Mayview manor property at Blowing Rock.
Mr. Alexander was born in Union county 62 years ago, coming to Charlotte when a young man. He started at the bottom and worked up.
He was twice married, first to Miss Lillian Ramsey of Rowan county, who died years ago. His second wife, who survives, was Miss Lillie Davis of Charlotte. One son, Walter Alexander of Charlotte and Blowing Rock, and a daughter, Miss Minnie Alexander, of this city, a sister, Miss Jennie Alexander, and two brothers, W.C. and J.B. Alexander, all of Charlotte, survive.
