Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 8—An enquiry to the death of W.W. Johnson of Mt. Holly, whose body was found lying in the home of Robert Reed, is being conducted by Robert Fran Hovis, coroner for this county. In the meantime, Reed and E.R. Fulp of Statesville are being held without bail pending an investigation. Neither Reed or Fulp made a statement beyond the assertion they knew nothing. Fulp surrendered when he learned he was being sought. Reed was arrested at his home. The body of Johnston was found lying on a sofa in the Reed home. The hands were folded but his body was lying in a pool of blood with a bullet hole through it. The shooting occurred Saturday night.
From the front page of the Wilson Times, September 9, 1924. The first two references to the name of the victim were spelled “Johnson,” but the third was spelled “Johnston.”
