Convicted for Gambling in Forest City, Jan. 8, 1925

Negroes Soaked for Gambling

Chief Putnam had the following negroes before Recorder Erwin at Rutherfordton recently: John Graham, Hugh Taylor, Dock Hardin, Will Dorsey, Bell Edwards. They were fined $15 and cost for gambling at Dock Hardin’s restaurant, Dec. 24th, where a shooting scrape was pulled by Kid Ellis, in which no one was hit.

Kid Ellis was placed under bond for the affair but did not appear in court. The bond was forfeited and capias issued for Ellis.

Chief B.E. Putnam arrested Ellis at his home Monday and took him before recorder O.C. Ellis where he was fined $100 and cost. Being unable to pay the fine, he was sent to jail.
