Fire at State Prison Sends Criminally Insane Patients Back to Dix Hospital, May 8, 1926

Fire Again Drives Out Insane Criminals

Raleigh, May 8—Fire, which a month ago drove the criminal insane patients from their quarters at Dix Hill state hospital, returned this afternoon to oust them from temporary wards which had been provided at state prison.

Fire of Undetermined Origin was discovered in the three-story prison building about 1 o’clock this afternoon, doing a damage estimated at about a thousand dollars. Prison guards quickly marched the 60-odd insane patients out of the building, and later in the afternoon they were taken back to Dix Hill hospital to occupy quarters which have been made ready since the destructive fire of a month ago.
