Deal Family Members Killed, Injured in Car Accident, Jan. 1, 1921
By the Associated Press, Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 1—Mr. And Mrs. P.A. Deal, Mr. E.M. Deal, 36(?), and Lena Bell Deal, 13, son and daughter of E.M. Deal of Newton, were killed outright and Beona Deal, 11-year-old sister of the two latter, was critically injured when the car of the latter was struck by an incoming freight train at a grade crossing near Charlotte.
The party was en route to their home in Newton after having attended here Friday the funeral of Mrs. J.H. Deal, wife of the local contractor and dealer, and son of Mr. P.A. Deal of Newton.
There were no eye-witnesses. The watchman who is kept on duty at the crossing was not present at the time, it was said.
