Two Who Died In France to Be Buried

Bodies of two fallen heroes will arrived in Charlotte from France at 7:30 o’clock Saturday night. Private James Claude Cannon, Co. “G”, 119th infantry, 30th division, and Sergt. Willliam Roy Martin, Co. “F”, 105th Engineers, also 30th division.

All members of the Hornets Nest Post No. 9, American Legion, have been requested to assemble in front of the city Hall Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock to assist in the funerals. The funeral of Private Cannon will be held at the home of his mother, Mrs. Julia Cannon Pierce, 1006 South Graham Street, Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Interment will be in Oaklawn, The funeral of Sergt. Martin will be held at the North Charlotte Baptist Church at 3:30 o’clock and interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Both young men were killed September 29th, 1918 in the Bellicourt offensive against the Hindenburg line. D.B. Cannon, a brother of Private Cannon, in Rockingham, took part in the same engagement in which the young men were killed.

Members of the Woman’s Auxiliary and American War Mothers will join with members of the Legion in paying their respects.
