Policemen Worthington and Davis, Assisted by Wiley P. Williams, Capture Desperate Character, June 3, 1922

Two Cops Capture Desperate Character Early This Morning

About 2:30 this morning while Policemen Worthington and Davis were patrolling the streets, they made a capture somewhat out of the ordinary. In front of Kress’ Store, corner Hay and Maxwell streets, they came face to face with a big opossum, which was making its way leisurely along the streets.

Needless to say that the ‘possum was run in, although a search revealed that it did not have in its pouch a pint or a concealed weapon.

We have not learned when the Mayor intends to try this night prowler.

In justice to Wiley P. Williams, colored, we will say that he was on the scene when the ‘possum was found and assisted in the capture, which of course made it easier fo the policemen, as what a colored person doesn’t know about catching a ‘possum is not worth knowing. When Wiley first saw the varmint it was being chased by a cat.
