R.E. McCann Receives Road Sentences, Forfeits His New Cadillac, Sept. 3, 1922

Arrest Man With Big Load of Red Whiskey. . . New Cadillac Car Taken From Man Charged With Transporting Whiskey

Winston-Salem, Sept. 2—R.E. McCann, who gave his home as Paducah, Ky., and later as Norfolk, Va., was given two road sentences in the municipal court this morning for transporting and having whiskey in his possession and for operating a car while under the influence of whiskey. The two sentences totaled two years, in addition his practically new Cadillac car and a large quantity of bonded whiskey were seized.

The defendant gave notice of appeal to the superior court. One bond was fixed at $400 and the other at $1,500. McCann was arrested at 1:30 this morning in a local café. In his possession was found the names of a number of local citizens, who, officers believe, were customers, but they declined to give out the names.
