In Durham Courts, Sept. 23, 1923

Appeals From Six Months’ Sentence

Gilbert Shaw, convicted of a charge of illegal possession of whiskey and given a sentence of six months on the Durham county roads, entered an appeal in superior court Saturday shortly after his case had been disposed of by recorder’s court. The court required the defendant to present a bond of $200.

Edgar Cates and Garland White, two young negro boys, were tried in court Saturday upon charges of fighting. Both were given fines of $2 and the cost.

Will Fuquay was fined $5 and the costs for drunkenness.

Coy Beckwith received a $5 fine and the costs for speeding with an automobile.

Ollie Sally and Sidney Watson were required to pay the court $1 and the costs each for taking part in an affray.

T.H. Tolley, charged with disposing of mortgaged property, will be tried on September 24.

H.D. O’Briant was found not guilty.
