Miss Lillian McFarland, the pretty and talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. McFarland, has returned to Gallaudet College, Washington, D.C., after spending her vacation here with her parents.
Miss McFarland can neither talk or hear, but she can come as near seeing through a mill-stone as any one. By watching the lips and expression of two people in conversation she can tell what they are talking about.
This is Miss Lillian’s second year at Gallaudet finishing school. They put the beginners on the top floor at Gallaudet College and promote them to the floor below when they become qualified. Miss Lillian stood at the head of her class last session and was extended the privilege of selecting a choice room on the floor to which she had been promoted, and also to select her room-mate from the large number of girls. All the states in the Union were represented at the college and Miss Lillian selected a young lady from Missouri as being an ideal companion.
