Another of the “old-timers” who spent a lifetime in the Coast Guard service dropped out last week, when Capt. Macajah W. Etheridge, U.S. Coast Guard, retired, died at his home near Manteo. Capt. Etheridge was keeper of the New Inlet Coast Guard station until he retired a few years ago. He was 73 years old and died of heart failure on Thursday last.
His surviving children are M.W. Etheridge Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky; C.L. Etheridge of Norfolk, Virginia; C.M. Etheridge and Mrs. W.O. Dough of Manteo.

Tennant Nelson
Thos. T. Nelson, proprietor from Southern Hotel, has returned from the funeral of his father, |Tennant Nelson, age 75, who died Sunday at his home in Baltimore County, Maryland, following a stroke of apoplexy on Saturday. Mr. Nelson was called to the bedside of his father on Saturday. Mr. Nelson was one of the oldest and most prominent families in Maryland. He was the son of the late John Nelson who was Attorney General of the United States during the administration of President Tylor, and later Minister to Italy. The funeral was conducted Tuesday.
