Chapel Hill, Nov. 2—Belief that the flogging of four students of the university by two masked men, as alleged in a student publication, was done as a practical joke, was expressed here tonight following a meeting of the student council which investigated the matter. Nine students residing in the house with the four alleged to have been flogged appeared before the council and were questioned.
The four boys, it is said, take the view that the matter was a joke and this also is the opinion of the reporter who wrote the story for the student paper. University authorities had nothing to say on the subject but it was understood officially tonight that the matter probably would be investigated through the regular channels.
