Death of Miss Anna Cansler

By Rev. T.H. Jones

The death of Miss Anna Cansler, a faithful member of St. Peter’s church, October 14th marks the passage of one of the strongest members of that church and one of Gastonia’s splendid citizens. Miss Cansler was an active worker, holding some of the leading positions in the church. Before her death she was the president of the W.H. and F. Missionary society and held this position until her death.

She was a strongly constituted woman with a strong will and great faith. She made a great student of the Bible and made that Book pre-eminently her life’s guide.

Miss Cansler was one of the four sisters who parents were Maggie and Isaac Cansler. Three sisters and three brothers survive her. She yielded the struggle peacefully Sunday October 14 at the age of 47, and was buried from St. Stephens church where a high tribute was paid to her memory. Rev. C.L. Thomas, her pastor, delivered the sermon. Rev. J.J. Nicholson was master of ceremonies. Mrs. Eugenia Blair read the obituary.

Papers of condolence were read by Mrs. Holland, Mrs. Hasson, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Walker.

Interment was made at the City cemetery where the body was laid to rest beneath the weight of floral tributes.
