Austin Carter, 52 years of age. Born and raised at Ruffin, this county. He had been twice separated from his wife.
Mrs. Gertie Moore Carter, 35 years old. She also lived at Ruffin for many years. She and her husband were first cousins. She is survived by six small children, the oldest 12 and the youngest 2, the latter being in her arms when she was shot.
John Price, 35, shot just under his heart. He is a building contractor and came here form New Bethel.
Mrs. John Price, 30, shot in the right leg.
Mrs. Walter Moore narrowly escaped serious injury, a bullet passing under her arm. She held Carter’s arm during shooting and pushed him out of the room.
Carter, it is claimed, has been married four times, two of his former wives still living.
Carter, who visited the Moore home early Sunday afternoon and threatened to “shoot up” the place, was arrested and placed under $200 bond for his appearance in court Monday. W.A. Stacey gave bond for him.
Carter was arrested at daybreak Monday morning at his Stokesland home by four Reidsville and two Schoolfield officers.
