Winston-Salem, May 29—Rev. J.A. Snow of Lincolnton has accepted the call to become pastor of Calvary Baptist church, this city. The call was extended some time ago and on last Sunday his resignation as pastor of the Lincolnton charge was presented and accepted. Under the agreement of the pastor and people there, the resignation is not effective for 90 days, but the congregation has assured Mr. Snow that he would be released as soon as matters could be arranged.

Charlotte, May 29—Edgar Pharr, of this city, candidate for the speakership of the next house of representatives, has expressed the opinion that he had enough votes “sewed up” to land him the place. Mr. Pharr is a candidate for re-election to the House from Mecklenburg county but anticipates little difficulty in being renominated and elected, although he has several opponents.

Rocky Mount, May 29—Between 2,500 and 3,000 people heard Josiah William Bailey tonight in a sizzling campaign speech in behalf of his own candidacy for governor and cheered him heartily when he made the declaration for the first time since he announced that “I am going to be nominated.”

Hickory, May 29—Commencement exercises of the Hickory public schools were completed Tuesday night when the 62 members of this year’s senior class of the high school were awarded diplomas.

Statesville, May 29—R.B. Joyner, Statesville’s oldest citizen, after confinement for a few days at his home on Sharpe street, passed away peacefully yesterday. He was in his 98th year. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. John W. Moore, pastor of Broad Street Methodist church.

Eufaula, Ala., May 29—Three hours after her oldest brother, Malcolm, was taken to hospital probably fatally injured in an automobile accident, little Mathide Reeves, 4-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Reeves, was run over by an automobile on Broad street today and instantly killed.
