Train Number 80 on the Coast Line left the track yesterday between Sumpter and Timmonsville, S.C., and 60 passengers were shaken up and bruised. None were killed however.
Mr. N.D. Gant, father of Mrs. Custus Perry of this city, was badly shaken and bruised, and his back was wrenched when the cars left the track. He is now at the home of his daughter in this city.
Mr. Gant was returning from a visit to another daughter who resides at Sumpter. He is 70 years of age and is confined to his bed as a result of the accident.
The accident was caused by the breaking of a rail, a piece of some 2 ½ feet long was broken out of the track. All of the cars went off the track and the sudden stopping of the train caused the passengers to be thrown helter skelter around, and all were more or less bruised. Fortunately for the passengers, an embankment prevented the coaches from turning completely over.
Another train was made up and this train did not reach Wilson until 5:15 yesterday afternoon.
