Greenville, S.C., Jan. 3—I.R. Johnson, 35, salesman, of Charlotte, N.C., died at a hospital here tonight from bullet wounds received late last night while visiting at the home of Mrs. C.C. Burroughs of this city, to whom he was engaged to marry. Police are holding Burroughs, 40, former husband of Mrs. Burroughs, in connection with the shooting.
A quarrel between the two men, which started when Burroughs went to the home of his former wife an found Johnson there, led up to the shooting.
Mrs. Burroughs told police that she was granted divorce from Burroughs in Atlanta, Ga., some time ago, and that she and Johnson planned to be married within a few days. She is the mother of seven children.
Burroughs, in jail here, has refused to discuss the case.
