Grandfather Mountain Fire Loss Estimated at $1 Million, Aug. 21, 1925

Damage Estimated at Million Dollars Now

Asheville, Aug. 20—Damages estimated by citizens of Blowing Rock to be approximately one million dollars have been done to Grandfather Mountain timber and lands by forest fires which have been raging there today, it was learned tonight in a telephone message of The Asheville Citizen.

Efforts to communicate with fire wardens or officials were futile, as it was said that they were all at the scene of the conflagration. Citizens said that the entire mountain is in flames. Owners of Mayview Manor, a large resort hotel at Blowing Rock, expressed the opinion that the hotel is in no danger of destruction.
