Statement to be Issued in W.B. Cole Trial for Murder of Bill Ormond, Aug. 24, 1925

Counsel for Cole to Issue Statement Today. . . Attorneys to Meet with James H. Pou in Raleigh, Reported—Statement Not Promised

Raleigh, Aug. 23—Counsel for W.B. Cole, millionaire cotton manufacturer, who shot to death young Bill Ormond, his daughter’s suitor, on the streets of Rockingham a week ago yesterday, intend to make a statement tomorrow dealing with their side of the case, it was understood here tonight.

While inquiries as to reported plans for a meeting of counsel here brought evasive answers, it was indicated that Cole’s attorneys will hold a conference with James H. Pou, and the statement will be issued afterwards.

Mr. Cole and his counsel have maintained a carefully guarded silence since the killing Saturday of last week, and the prospective statement will hold a great deal of interest. While there has been much speculation as to the possible motive for the shooting, nothing more responsible that conjecture has been ventured thus far.

Whether the statement will deal with a motive or other matters relating to the killing, or whether it will merely have to do with plans for the trial, was unknown.
