Jake C. Miller Critical after Collision with Train, March 18, 1926

Sampson Man Hit by Train May Die. . . Mr. Jake C. Miller of Poplar Grove Seriously Injured at Faison Crossing

Mr. Jake C. Miller, aged about 60, and who is a prosperous farmer and planter of the Poplar Grove section, lies in the A.C.L. hospital in Rocky Mount in a serious condition as a result of being struck by passenger train No. 48 at Faison depot Monday morning about 10:30 o’clock.

According to reports, Mr. Miller was in his car which was being driven by Nathan Bell, colored, and was in the act of driving across the track when the train struck it knocking the negro from the car and cutting Mr. Miller probably fatally about the neck and face. The car was completely demolished. The negro escaped uninjured.

Dr. Morton was called to the scene where he dressed the wounds while the train waited to bear Mr. Miller to the hospital in Rocky Mount. According to those who saw Mr. Miller following the collision, the main artery on the left side of the neck was completely severed. No word has been received here pertaining to his condition Tuesday.
