New Bern, March 16—As the result of federal and state investigations and a raid early yesterday morning that brought the discovery of five gallons of whiskey and the arrests of the proprietor and our other men, the James Hotel, of this city, may be padlocked at an early date, under alleged violation of the prohibition laws, according to federal prohibition agents and deputized citizens.
On the other hand, warrants charging forcible trespass were sworn out today by Eugene M. Lupton, proprietor of the James Hotel and former sheriff of Pamlico County, against Dr. W.L. Hand, prominent local dentist; Geroge Sanders, A.L. Dail and HG. Gulley, assistant deputized members of the raiding party.
