Capt. Charles Freeman Cited for Distinguished Conduct in Action, July 10, 1919

Capt. Freeman Gets Military Award

Capt. Charles C. Freeman, fifth military police company, has been cited for distinguished conduct in action, an honor that his hundreds of friends in Hickory will appreciate. It was in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensive that Capt. Freeman won his distinction.

He formerly was captain in the regular army, but was retired when the war broke out, reenlisted and was sent to a training camp and was commissioned lieutenant. He was shortly promoted to captain. In Hickory he was with the Piedmont Wagon and Manufacturing Company. The following is the citation:

Captain Charles C. Freeman, 5th military police company

For exceptional devotion to duty, energy and zeal. During the operations of this division in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives, he displayed at all times high qualities of initiative and energy, giving his untiring efforts towards better work for his organization and was measurably responsible for the fine results obtained.
