Members of Corn, Pig, Poultry and Canning Clubs Hold Annual Meeting, July 5, 1919

From the Daily Times, Wilson, N.C., July 5, 1919. These clubs, sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service, were the forerunners of today’s 4-H Clubs.

Meeting of Corn, Pig, Poultry, and Canning Clubs

The third annual meeting of the Corn, Pig, Poultry, and Canning clubs of Wilson County was held in Wilson today. The Members arrived early in the morning and were registered shortly after 10 o’clock. After the completion of the registration they were directed to a moving picture show at the Princess.

At the conclusion of the show they marched to the graded school grounds headed by the Burke Brothers Band.

A delightful dinner was then served by Misses Ella Hackney, Mary Hadley Connor, Miriam Oettinger, Nannie Sue Crute Frazier, and Chandler and Mrs. Boyete.

After dinner a club rally was held in front of the graded school building. Short talks were made by Mrs. Boyette and Mr. Furgerson emphasizing the importance of community co-operation.

Reports were heard from members of the recent camping parties held at Rock Ridge and from Misses Lillie Taylor, Edna Taylor, and Louise Eagles.

The meeting was then adjourned. This session proved to be very interesting and instructive and in addition all the members had a good time.
