The North Carolina communities that have given welcome home
celebrations for soldiers have included the colored boys of course. But we have
yet to hear of an incident that was not to the credit of the people of both
races at any of these celebrations. North Carolina colored soldiers have
returned from the camps or war and gone to work. They are no causing any
trouble. They are behaving like men.

Catawba county people will not forget to make preparations
to attend the big county welcome to young and old veterans at Newton on
Thursday, August 14. There is every reason to believe that it will exceed in
interest any gathering of the kind ever held in the county seat and those who
are absent will regret it.
