Carroll Eckard Out on Bond, Jan. 3, 1921
Carroll Eckard was released from Burke county jail last evening on a bond of $4,000 furnished by his father and three other men and will have his liberty until his case is called at Morganton in Friday. He was arrested Friday evening as an accessory after the fact in the murder of Glenn Lippard following statements by Lone Young and Baxter Hildebrand that they heard Cecil Lefner say that Cecil Dock and Eckard robbed the body.
Another circumstance that caused Solicitor Huffman to act was the payment by Eckard of a $72 garage bill to an East Hickory man for repairs shortly after the homicide.
Cecil Hefner may escape punishment for participation in the murder, but he will be tried as an accessory after the fact.
John Hefner, convicted of selling liquor, was given bond in the sum of $1,500 for his appearance at the February term of Catawba superior court.
