Archie Palmer Charged with Manslaughter, Jan. 14, 1923

Held on Charge of Manslaughter. . . Albemarle Man Arrested in Connection with Deaths of Two Durham Young Men

Albemarle, N.C., Jan. 13—Charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Ralph Smith and James Stage of Durham and Albert Mooneyham of Raleigh on November 5, last, Archie Palmer of Albemarle has been arrested and released on bond of $5,500, pending a preliminary hearing which, it is understood, will be held on January 31. A charge of driving an automobile while intoxicated has also been preferred against Palmer, it is stated.

Smith, Stagg and Mooneyham met their deaths when an automobile in which they were passengers left the road between Albemarle and the Swift Island bridge, struck a tree, and was completely wrecked. Palmer’s exact connection with the case has not been disclosed by the authorities.
