Mrs. Hector McLean, 76, Mrs. Robert Underwood, 72, Have Died, Jan. 18, 1923

Death of Mrs. Hector McLean Last Friday

Mrs. Hector McLean died last Friday morning at her home after two weeks illness of influenza. Mrs. McLean was 76 years of age.

She leaves two sons, Messrs. J.E. and H.R. McLean, and eight daughters, Mrs. K.H. Murchison, Mrs. W.N. McDonald, Mrs. Alex Morrison, Mrs. Rena Autry, Miss Jeanie McLean, Miss Eliza McLean, Miss Ella McLean and Miss Annie Bell McLean.

Mrs. McLean was laid to rest in the Flat Branch cemetery. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Mr. Gibbs of Linden.

The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all people in this community.

Mrs. Robert T. Underwood

Mrs. Robert T. Underwood, who was for many long years a familiar figure and a useful woman in Waynesville, died at her home on Fairview Road near Biltmore, Monday, Jan. 15th, at the age of 72. She had been married 54 years, having celebrate her golden wedding in 1919.

Fourteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Underwood and 12 are living. She is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: J.P. Underwood and Mrs. J.S. Jones, Waynesville; Mrs. B.T. Reeves, Biltmore; T.W. Underwood, Ross Underwood and Mrs. G.C. Hawkins, Asheville; Mrs. G.O. Ralls, Greensboro; Mrs. A.C. Foster, Weldon; R.L. Underwood, Baltimore, Md.; A.L. Underwood, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. Nannette Dresser, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Mary Lanier, Honduras, Central America, and ______ Bristol, Tenn. (Blank for missing name as printed in newspaper.)

The deceased was brought here Tuesday for burial. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church at 11 o’clock Wednesday by Rev. Mr. Shoep, pastor of the Adventist church, Asheville, and Rev. Mr. Killian of Pisgah Industrial Institute, Candler.

Those present for the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Reeves of Biltmore, Mrs. Dresser of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Foster of Weldon, Mr. and Mrs. Ralls of Greensboro, Ross Underwood, T.W. Underwood and Mrs. Hawkins of Asheville, and A.L. Underwood of St. Petersburg, Fla.
