Commencing Wednesday morning at 7 o ‘clock, Bruce Hodges, for some time physical director attached to the Fifth United States Army Corps, will give 30 minutes of physical drill (setting-up exercises) every morning in the basement of Gordon Street Christian Church. These lessons in physical exercise will be given under the auspices of the Kinston Rotary club, and every boy over 10 years of age is eligible to membership in the class. Only those who are willing to be on hand every morning and who want to build up their bodies physically, are wanted. There will be no charges or fees, and the physical director hopes that he will not encounter any drawbacks by absentees. To get beneficial results it will be necessary for members of the class to attend regularly. The lessons begin at first with mild setting-up exercises, gradually approaching the more strenuous forms. In the first lessons there are a number of exercises that are necessary if one wishes to obtain good results, and Director Hodges hopes to have as many as possible to start with.
Rev. Abram E. Cory, pastor of the church, upon learning of the Rotary plans for the work, cheerfully tendered the use of the basement, and stated that he believed his membership would cooperate in the fullest degree in a work that promises much physical and mental improvement for the boys and young men of the city.
While this work is inaugurated primarily for the boys and young men, the older men will be welcomed if they will attend regularly. The physical exercises will take place each morning (except Sunday) at 7 o’clock sharp, and will last only 30 minutes. An invitation is extended to the boys and men of the city to attend the first meeting, Wednesday morning at 7 o’clock. There will be no charges.
