Greensboro, Feb. 14—A raise in the wage scale is the aim of the carpenters of this city, who have notified the contractors that the next wage scale, to be negotiated to go not effect on April 2, will call for 75 cents an hour, instead of the present rate of 65, with time and a half for all overtime, with an eight-hour day. Contractors are considering the matter, not having yet given the carpenters an answer. A large amount of building, especially dwelling houses, in course of construction or projected, is expected to allow the higher scale to go into effect.
