Resignation of Prof. E.D. Pusey as superintendent of the city schools was announced Saturday night by the city school board, effective June 30th of this year. The resignation was tendered to the board at a meeting held during the evening at the high school building.
Efforts to get into communication with Prof. Pusey regarding his resignation were futile last night, therefore no statement could be secured from him regarding his action. It was reported, however, that ill health was assigned as the cause of his resignation. Mr. Pusey has been head of the Durham city schools for the past eight years.
The following statement was given out following the meeting by the board:
“The board of education announces the resignation of Prof. E.D. Pusey as superintendent of the city schools, effective June 30th. The board has accepted Prof. Pusey’s resignation.” Mr. Pusey was elected for another term at the meeting of the board held several weeks ago and his resignation will come as a surprise to many people.
No successor to Mr. Pusey has as yet been secured.
