Girl Injured When Jumped from Robert Hollar's Car, May 22, 1923

Girl Jumped from a Car

Hickory, N.C., May 21—Jack Laws, a young white woman whose home is said to have been near Gastonia, died in a local hospital late last night from injuries to her head when she fell or jumped from an automobile, according to a story told Sheriff Lynch by Ruth Ennis, a Caldwell county girl.

Robert Hollar of Newton was driving the car at the time, the girl said, and refused to let the Ennis girl leave the car. He seized her around the waist and drove rapidly with one hand, the chief said he was told, and the young woman fell or leaped from the machine. The affair occurred on a road near this city early Sunday morning.

Hollar was held on $500 bail for his appearance and Chief Lynch said Hollar was already under bond in connection with seizure of 15 gallons of liquor in his automobile near here several weeks ago.
