Prisoner Luke Britt Has Hernia Repaired, May 3, 1923

Prisoner Operated On. . . Luke Britt Removed from County Jail to Hospital—Operation Ordered on Recommendation of Physicians

Luke Britt, who has been confined to the county jail since the finding of the remains of E.R. Shepherd several months ago, charged with the murder of Shepherd, underwent an operation at the Thompson hospital Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock for hernia.

Medical attention was given Britt in jail following a complaint of his trouble and it was deemed advisable to operate. He readily submitted to the operation, which was ordered by Mr. Jno. W. Ward, chairman of the board of commissioners, after the recommendations of the physicians.

The operation was a success and according to late reports the patient is doing nicely. Guards have been placed at the hospital and as soon as recommended by the hospital authorities, Britt will be returned to the jail to await the July term of Superior court.
