A Trip from Siler City to Ronda, Arkansas, Sept. 6, 1923

Mr. Blair Writes of Trip

Ronda, Arkansas, Aug. 25—Editor Record:--Leaving Siler City on August 15th, by way of Greensboro, we rode No. 35 to Atlanta, being delayed two hours on account of engine trouble near Greenville, S.C. We made connection with No. 7, the Memphis special, by way of Birmingham, Ala., but we had more engine trouble and was again delayed at Wyona, Mississippi. We remained in Memphis over night.

Next morning our party walked down to the Mississippi river and it was some sight for my wife and son Edward and my sister, Mrs. Braxton, to see the large boats loaded heavily with cotton and coal.

We left there for Mariana, Ark., arriving at 12 o’clock, and Mrs. Blair’s cousin met us and we went to the hotel for the night. We left here for Ronda, Ark., which was to be our headquarters.

We have been on the go ever since. We have visited all the places I am going to name. we went to Helena, where we visited Berta Douglass and many other relatives in Wabash.

Believe me, this is some cotton belt. Some of the finest land you ever saw. Thousand acres of cotton in one field and as high as my head setting on a horse. We left Wabash for Lexa, Ark. Here we visited Vera Crouch and spent the night. We had a good time. We then went to Ronda, from there to Forest city and Sercy on the Rock Island road. Then we went to Hot Springs. We will spend a few days more in Ronda.

Mr. Shaw, I will say this is the finest farming section I ever saw. A bumper crop will be made and my cousin, N.M. Blair has 600 acres in cotton, 400 in corn, and all other essentials in this section.

Yours very truly,

U.S. Bair
