Cases Disposed of by Wilkes Court

Jim Combs, for leaving his wife and children, suspended sentence of two years and a bond of $500 required.

Romey Brooks and young woman, fornication and adultery, a young couple recently of Franklin county, suspended sentence of six months by way of future conduct.

Wiley Bentley, drunkenness, fined $5 and ordered to pay $50 damage done to building wile on spree.

Joe Byrd, assault with deadly weapon, four months in jail—suspended sentence of four months as to Clyde Staley for the same offense.

Tom Smithey, 67 years old, abusing his wife, judgement suspended.

Luther Key, possession of liquor and resisting officer, fined $50 and cost.

John Woodie, disturbing religious worship, four months suspended sentence and show good behavior for four months.

Geo. Shepherd, c.c.w., fined $50 and cost.

C.L. Parsons, deputy sheriff, unlawful act of officer, got out without cost.

Ed Griffin, c.c.w., taxed with cost.

Oscar Ridings, 90 days suspended sentence for stealing a pair of slippers.

Tom Huffman, manufacturing, suspended sentence of four months and cost.

Walter Winkler, a. with d. w., guilty of criminal negligence, taxed with cost.

Ralph Ray, prostitution, nol pros. to Day; Dyson 4 months on Alamance county roads or other county roads; woman turned over to welfare officer.

Arthur Haley, Lula Haley and Filo (Ferguson) Sweet, non suit at close of evidence.

Tom Alexander and Nora Alexander, retailing, guilty.

Mark Hawkins, keeping baudy house, 60 days in jail, capias not to be issued if pay one-half costs by next criminal term, bond $200 and to appear and show he has paid cost by next term.

Lee Bolin, c.c.w., pled guilty, fined $50 and cost.

Laura Marley, a with d.w., 20 days in jail and cost.

Howard Roberts, injury to stock, verdict aiding and abetting.

Cord Harris and Charlie Shew, a. with d.w., $50 and $25 to Dr. Vaughn for pain and suffering caused by the act and each defendant to be in jail 60 days.

Connie Hayes, trespass, new trial ordered and continued.

John Portor, abandonment, continued to next Thursday, 20th.

Jess Childress and Millard Brown, l. defendant pleads guilty, judgment suspended with payment one-half of cost, forfeiture heretofore entered, stricken.

Charley Pruitt, l. and receiving goods, 5 months assigned to roads; on second count assigned to work on roads of Alamance or other county 8 months, capias not to issue on condition that he work constantly and regularly at some occupation and does not drink liquor or smoke cigarettes and does not violate any other law of North Carolina five years.

Coy Walker, Jeno Johnston and Vertie Hart, prostitution, defendant pleads guilty.

Ed Smith, Thomas Vannoy—guilty.

Spencer Wood, f., continued by consent.

White Blackburn, secd., nolo contendre, judgement suspended on payment of cost.

J.E. Winkler, c.c.w., verdict of guilty, $100 and cost.

Lee Parks, a. with d.w., defendant pleads guilty, judgment suspended on payment of cost and defendant given until next term of Wilkes superior court or next March to pay.

John Adkins, m. and r., nol p.

H.C. Creed, r. 60 days in jail and pay j. fees; if board is not paid then 20 days longer.

Luther Anderson, abandonment, pleads guilty, mistrial ordered.
