Alexander Shaver, 86, Succumbs in Salisbury

Salisbury, March 12—Alexander Shaver, one of the oldest citizens of Salisbury, died Thursday at 5:30 at his home on Lincolnton road. His death followed a lingering illness that had kept him in bed 2 ½ years. Mr. Shaver was 86 years old and a widower, his wife having died several years ago. One son and three daughters survive, all married and living in Salisbury. Mr. Shaver’s death removed another member of the “thin grey lines” of the Confederate veterans The funeral party will leave the Shafer home at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, and the funeral and interment will take place at Liberty church in the country at 3 o’clock.
