Moses Harris Shot and Killed for Moonshine, Nov. 27, 1920

By the Associated Press, New Bern, N.C., Nov. 27—Moses Harris, negro, said to have been one of the most desperate moonshiners in this section of the state and who, officers say reported that he would never be taken alive, was shot and killed a few miles from Trenton, Jones county, early today after he had seized the rifle of the one of the officers and given battle. The officers had been looking for Harris for several months on warrants charging blockading. A 70-gallon still ready for operation was found near Harris’ home early today.
