McElwee-Martin Cigarette Factory Opens in Statesville, 1920

Statesville, Oct. 31--The machinery of the McElwee-Martin cigarette factory is now in readiness for the manufacture of cigarettes. the first tobacco started through the machines today and is expected that the first of the finished product will e through the machines by the middle of the coming week. The company will manufacture cigarettes, putting them in the popular sizes of 10 and 20 to the package. The capacity of the plant will be a half million cigarettes a day. the plant is in charge of Amos C. Crouch, an expert cigarette man from Winston-Salem.
