Elkin, June 10—Last Sunday morning at 4 o’clock the Haynes roller mills at State Road was completely destroyed by fire. When the fire was discovered, it had made such headway that it was impossible to save anything. About 400 bushels of corn, 75 bushels of wheat and a lot of flour and feed stuff were burned.
The loss was about $15,000, with $6,000 insurance. It is supposed that the fire originated in the boiler-room and the building, being a wooden structure, burned down in a very short time.
From the front page of The Mount Airy News, Thursday, June 16, 1921. The name of the mill was Hanes in the headline and Haynes in the article. I don’t know which is correct.
