O.N. Swanson Seriously Injured; Charlie Jessup Held for Driving While Drinking, June 15, 1921

Serious Auto Wreck

O.N. Swanson of Pilot Mountain is in a serious condition in Martin hospital as the result of being run into by a Ford car driven by Charlie Jessup last Sunday afternoon. Mr. Swanson and family were driving on the road between Pilot Mountain and Westfield when they were run into by the Ford on a curve in the road. The two cars came together, throwing Mr. Swanson through the windshield of his car, severely cutting his face and body. He also received a blow upon the head which rendered him unconscious, and in which condition he has remained since the accident. A specialist from Raleigh arrived Wednesday and held a consultation with local doctors in regard to his condition. Besides being unconscious, Mr. Swanson is also paralyzed on the left side.

Jessup was taken in charge by the officers and is now being held in Dobson jail until there is a change in the condition of Mr. Swanson. It is reported that Jessup was drinking at the time of the accident and this fact makes the charge against him more serious. Both the cars were considerably smashed up, the large Mitchell of Mr. Swanson being damaged several hundred dollars.
