Statesville, June 11—Contracts for Statesville’s new hotel here were let Friday afternoon. About 20 out-of-town bidders were here when the bids were opened at 11:30 in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. The contract for the building was awarded to J.A. Gardner of Charlotte; contract for installing the heating system was awarded to the Grinnell Company of Charlotte; electric wiring to L.J. Freel of Statesville. The plumbing contract was not let. The total cost of the hotel and furnishings complete will be around $185,000.
C.V. Henkel, who has the matter in charge, has been pushing the hotel proposition for Statesville as rapidly as possible. Mr. Henkel announces that construction of the new building will begin at once and will be completed within 10 months.
