New Orleans, March 10—“Babe” Ruth, redoubtable home run specialist, signalized his arrival at New York American league training quarters here today when, in batting practice, he knocked the first ball pitched over the centerfield fence. It was the second time in the history of the park that a ball ever had been knocked over the fence and Ruth holds both records. The fence is 14 feet high and 486 feet from the home plate.
