Edgar Williams' Auto Strikes, Kills 12-Year-Old, April 5, 1923

Reidsville Child Killed by an Auto

Reidsville, April 2—Margaret Lindsay, aged 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lindsey, was struck by a Buick automobile this afternoon about 2 o’clock, on Leawsonville Avenue and almost instantly killed.

The car was driven by Edgar Williams, aged about 30, who claims the accident was unavoidable. He says the car was almost on the girl when he saw her and he was unable to stop the car until the bumper struck her and one wheel had passed over her body. Williams was lodged in jail and later released on $1,000 bond.

From the front page of The Lincoln County News, Lincolnton, N.C., April 5, 1923. Girl's last name is spelled Lindsay on first reference and Lindsey on second reference; I don't know which is correct.
