Machinery purchased for the oil development in the eastern section of the state has been received and placed on the grounds where drilling operations are expected to begin during the next 30 days, according to information received in this city by J.L. Burroughs. Other shipments of machinery are expected to be received within a short time.
The eyes of the entire state are upon the section between New Bern and Morehead City, and should the land yield up oil in the quantities which the engineers believe lies hidden beneath it, North Carolina will enter the list of oil producing states and will be near the top. It will also mean great riches for the state and will bring to it its greatest era of prosperity.
As soon as the machinery is set up, the drilling will begin. The momentous occasion will be attended by the stockholders, most of whom are Durham citizens. Plans are being made for making it a big event and it is expected that hundreds of people will be on the grounds when the machinery begins to operate. A big barbecue in honor of the occasion is one of the features that is being considered. Definite date for the event is expected to be announced within a short time.
