Seymour Sykes, 13, Drowns in Pasquotank River, July 17, 1925

Boy Drowns

Seymour Sykes, 13-year-old colored boy, was drowned in Pasquotank River Sunday afternoon when he waded over his depth while in bathing with a party of boys near the coal pier. His body was recovered two hours later by Joe Powell, 13-year-old son of A.P Powell, Knobbs Creek bridge tender, who dived in the water and brought up the body.
