Miss Linnie Hardin, who underwent the second operation at the Rutherford hospital, is reported as getting along nicely.

Rev. H.C. Sisk has the misfortune of getting his arm broke and his head and leg injured when a truck in which he was riding turned over near the Grace Mill, Rutherfordton. Three others were in the truck. Melvin Baynard was slightly injured, while Fred Osborn and Bill Ward escaped uninjured. Rev. Sisk was rushed to his home at once and Dr. Bostick was called to dress his wounds.

A series of tent meetings conducted by Revs. H.C. Sisk and Mack Reid closed at Caroleen last Sunday night. There was a large attendance, especially at night. About 118 professed faith in Christ and 20 were added to the Missionary Methodist church. Nine were baptized and several more yet to be baptized as a result of the meeting. The tent is being moved to Ruth and the meeting will begin up there next Thursday night. Everybody is cordially invited to attend.

Rev. Dan S. Hardin will deliver a message on temperance next Sunday morning, August 16, at 10 o’clock at the Wesleyan Methodist church. All the town and churches are cordially invited to come and hear him.

Mrs. Lon Jones gave her class of the Missionary Methodist Sunday school a picnic Wednesday afternoon in the grove known as the Dr. Young Grove. There was about 50 little folk present, including some grownups. A long table was prepared and filled with goodies, the little folk delivered some good singing, after which they returned to their homes declaring a splendid time had been theirs.

Mr. Charlie Lloyd and Mrs. Bud Jackson, Mrs. Mark Lynch, Mrs. White and daughter, Miss Julia May, visited Mrs. M.E. Gibbs of Hendersonville Sunday. Mrs. Bud Jackson and Miss Julia May White will remain with Mrs. Gibbs this week.

Mr. Major Gamble and family of Wadesboro were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Harrill Sunday.

Mrs. Bill Noblett of Bessemer City is spending some time with relatives here.

Mrs. Elbert Wilson and children of Shelby are the weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Henderson.

Mrs. Lucinda Rich, Mrs. Eva Vandyke and daughter, Gladys, are spending some time in Charlotte and Cherokee Falls with relatives.

Miss Willie Owens is vising her uncle this week, Mr. Will Sisk, of Johnson City, Tennessee.

Mrs. Dora Nanney and daughter, Myrtle, Mrs. Sallie Duncan and children were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Baynard Sunday at Caroleen.

Mr. Patton Sisk and Jessie Propes motored to Morganton Monday.

Mr. Lon Jones will return to Charlotte hospital today and have his eyes examined again.

The relatives and friends of Mr. George Green Sr. surprised him with a birthday dinner Sunday. Misses Maude Goode and Louise Padgett spend Sunday with miss Mamie Hawkins. Messrs. Roy and Virgin Scruggs spent the week-end with Messrs. J.P. Jr. and Odell Dobbins. A party of Sunday school boys and girls went on a picnic to Irene Park, Gaffney, last Thursday. The girls furnished the lunch and the boys the means of conveyance, also three gallons of ice cream. In the afternoon they visited Love Springs and a number of the boys enjoyed bathing in the pool. Those who enjoyed the picnic were: Misses Willie B. Allen, Lucile Shirlin, Mallie Pauline and Ethel Scruggs, Emily Putman, Ethel, Eula and Vernice Dobbins, and Messrs. Otho Honeycutt, Dean Sheland, Roy, Virgil and Baxter Scruggs, Alonzo and Monroe Putman, Vance Rollins, Max Padgett, Paul Tate, Jack Alexander and C.B. Beason.
