When Thomas Thompson Took Bible Literally, Aug. 14, 1925

The Bible and Boobs

A Roman Catholic Priest will tell you that his church would no more think of putting the Bible in the hands of the people to read and interpret for themselves than it would think of giving folks bombs to play with. There is much to be said for the Roman Catholic’s viewpoint. Witness the following news dispatch from Cincinnati:-- Thomas Thompson believes implicitly in the Bible. Its words are his law.

“If thy right hand offend thee, cut it off,” says the Bible.

Thompson’s right having offended him, he obeyed the Biblical injunction. He calmly placed it under the wheels of a speeding railway train. With a groan, but no tears, he saw it severed from his body. His courage amazed the men who found him and took him to a hospital, where he now lies, weak from the heavy loss of blood.

Thompson won’t tell how his hand offended him. “I did it because the Lord told me to” he explains simply.
