Gift Secured by Dean Will Add $3,000 to Salaries of Five Teachers This Year, July 23, 1926

Walker Settles on the Teachers for High School. . . Names to be Announced When Mr. Chase Has Returned and Approve Them. . . Gift of $15,000 a Year

N. W. Walker, acting dean of the school of education, back from a trip to New York and Chicago, is ready to submit to President Chase the names of the teachers who will be added to the Chapel Hill high school as the result of the donation from the General Education Board. When the president has returned, and has approved the list, the names will be made public.

The gift amounts to $75,000, divided into five yearly installments of $15,000 each. Together with what the Chapel Hill school board pays from its salary budget, this permits the employment of six teachers at $3,000 each, and a director of training at about $4,000.

While carrying on instruction in the school, the six teachers will have some work in the University’ school of education and will rank as assistant professors in the University. The director of training will have the rank of professor.

Mr. Walker spent several days last week studying the same sort of cooperative educational plan at the University of Chicago.
